The Outlaws, heirloom wood toy car, inspired by mid-century American design and car culture.

The Outlaws - 1920's inspired, vintage wooden cars. Candylab combine a mix of Art Deco modernism and the daredevil, rough and oily car culture of those years.

A matte black coat of paint, a red light side arm, and a scribbling of the precinct numbers on its roof: this is the reminder of the churning and drama of bringing law and order to those hardened years. The toy carries the visual cues of an adventurous, free wheeling era: it stands for order, fierce car chases and keeping the lid on the bag guys.

The car also has a cute graphic on its belly, with tally marks that one assumes stand for the vanquished baddies.

Material: Solid Beech Wood, Water Based Paint and Clear Urethane

Dimensions: 23.5cm x 11.4cm x 6.4cm

Care instructions: Wipe with a damp cloth and a few drops of soapy water if needed.

Candylab Toys was born out of our desire to revive the glamorous '60s American modernist vibe and carve it into awesome contemporary wood toy designs.

As artists, designers and parents we draw on many influences, not least of which are our deep love of classic American Cars and the craftsmanship spirit of mid-century artisan furniture designers.

Coupled with the realisation that we’re slowly drowning in forgettable toys that break and disassemble — ending in piles of plastic bits — this determined us to create a line of heirloom wood toys that are elegant, durable, and simple, giving children a chance to create their own stories around the objects they play with.
